• Minimize time spent outdoors between dusk and dawn.
• Wear shoes, socks, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt when outdoors for long periods of time, or when mosquitoes are most active.
• Use mosquito repellent containing DEET or Picaridin, according to directions, when you are outdoors.
• Place mosquito netting over infant carriers when you are outdoors with infants.
• Install or repair window and door screens so that mosquitoes cannot get indoors.
• Reduce the mosquito population around your home and property, by reducing or eliminating all standing water:

• Remove all discarded tires on your property. Used tires have become an important source of mosquito breeding in the nation.
• Keep rain gutters clean and free of clogs.
• Drill holes in the bottoms of recycling containers and open garbage cans that are kept outdoors.
• Make sure roof gutters drain properly, and are free from clogs.
• Turn over plastic wading pools and wheelbarrows when not in use.
• Change the water in birdbaths weekly.
• Clean vegetation and debris from edges of ponds.
• Clean and chlorinate swimming pools, outdoor saunas and hot tubs.
• Drain water from pool covers.
• Use landscaping to eliminate standing water that collects on your property.
• Empty water from flower pots, pet food and water dishes, buckets, barrels, and cans.
