Pennington County Extension Services - Horticulture

INFORMAL EDUCATIONAL ARM OF SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY

Horticulture is the art and science of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants. Horticulture is evident in home gardening, small acreage farming, urban forestry, nursery production, greenhouse production, landscaping and interiorscaping. Horticulture is unique among plant sciences in that the principles and elements of design are often incorporated.

Horticultural advice via telephone, e-mail, and walk-in visits
Inspection of plant and insect samples (insects must be in a sealed container) for identification and diagnosis
Home visits when necessary to gather additional information about a specific horticultural problem
Soil testing kits for SDSU Soil Testing Lab in Brookings, SD
Well water testing kits for SD Department of Health in Pierre, SD
Water quality testing for suitability for plant irrigation use
